The Value, Problems and Optimization of the AIPE Model in the English Translation of Chinese Ancient Poems

Abstract: In recent years, Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) has demonstrated remarkable capabilities in the field of translation, and the AIPE (Artificial Intelligence Post-editing) model has gradually developed into a new paradigm. This paper focuses on the application of the AIPE model in the English translation of classical Chinese poetry and conducts an in-depth analysis based on specific translation examples. It is found that the model can quickly generate multi-style first drafts and provide translators with creative ideas and lexical references, effectively improving translation efficiency. However, it also has problems such as insufficient aesthetic creativity and easy occurrence of mistranslation. Translators need to design and use prompts accurately, and guide AI's performance appropriately, while maintaining their subjectivity and controlling the quality of the translation. It is hoped this model will facilitate the English translation of classical poetry and the international dissemination of traditional Chinese culture.
摘要：近年来，生成式人工智能（GenAI）在翻译展现出卓越效能，人工智能译后编辑（AIPE）模式已逐步发展成为翻译领域的新范式。本文聚焦 AIPE 模式在汉语古诗英译中的应用，结合具体翻译实例展开深入分析，发现该模式通过 AI 快速生成多风格初稿，可为译者提供思路和用词参考，有效提升翻译效率；但同时也存在审美创造力不足、易引发误译等问题。为此，译者需精准设计并使用提示语，科学引导 AI 选择恰当的翻译方法，同时坚守自身在翻译过程中的主体性地位，严格把控译文质量，助力汉语古诗英译与中国古典文化的国际传播。
